Red Ayahuasca (Banisteriopsis muricata) is a vine that primarily grows in Peru, Ecuador, and other parts of South and Central America.

The Quichua people of Ecuador have revered red ayahuasca as sacred for centuries, using it in their shamanic rituals. Their shamans, called yachaks, prepare the vine with great respect to brew ayahuasca tea, which is used in ceremonies to promote deep spiritual insights, emotional cleansing, and contact with the spirit world – a central part of their cultural and healing traditions.
